Why we love it

Home of the Freeride World Tour finals. Mont Fort's steeps, a huge linked area and a village that knows how to celebrate a good day.

Getting there

Geneva Airport is the closest major airport, about 160 km and two hours by road. By train, go from Geneva to Martigny, change onto the St-Bernard Express to Le Châble and take the gondola up to Verbier. Zurich is around three and a half hours away.

Who it's for

Verbier is built for confident intermediates, experts and freeriders. Mont Fort, Mont Gelé and the Tortin itinerary are some of the most famous runs in the Alps, and the off-piste is huge if you go with a guide. Beginners and families are better off on the gentler slopes of Les Esserts, Savoleyres and La Tzoumaz.

Best time to go

January to March brings the most reliable snow. Mont Fort's glacier tops out at 3,330 m, so the high runs stay good into April, while the lower slopes towards Le Châble can thin out early and late in the season. Come in late March to catch the Freeride World Tour finals on the Bec des Rosses.
